¿Cómo generar Xorg.conf? (x -configure las fallas de segmento)?

Mi tarjeta de video funciona bien, no tengo ningún problema con la pantalla.
Estoy tratando de generar un archivo xorg.conf, así que lo hice:

[ Logout ]
sudo service gdm stop
[ Move away xorg.conf.back and xorg.conf.fglrx-0 that were in /etc/X11 ]
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
sudo X -configure

Pero este último comando falla:

Tenga en cuenta la línea Can't load FireGL DRM library (libfglrxdrm.so)

Nota:tengo el archivo /usr/lib/fglrx/xorg/modules/linux/libfglrxdrm.so

Es extraño que haya fallas de segmento mientras que puedo usar Gnome sin problemas, pero bueno...
Podría estar relacionado:intenté instalar el controlador desde el sitio web de ATI recientemente, y desde entonces glxgears falla al inicio.

¿Cómo puedo generar xorg.conf en esas condiciones?
Puede o no implicar resolver el problema de falla de segmento.
