Notaré además:cuando uso una tarjeta de sonido USB, no funciona en el arranque, no se muestra en absoluto. Cuando lo desconecto y lo vuelvo a conectar empieza a funcionar. ¿Cómo puedo establecer qué aplicación captura las tarjetas de sonido?

Solo quería agregar a esto, seguí instrucciones similares para que el sonido funcionara brevemente después de reiniciar con un Dell XPS 13 con Ubuntu cosmic (18.10). Cambiar entre 'automático' y 'genérico' no cambió mucho
sudo alsa force-reload
funcionó para mí.
